Introduction: The Zones of Regulation

🎈 What Are the Zones of Regulation?

Hello, Year 1 students! Today, we're going to explore something super exciting that helps us understand our feelings and how we can manage them better. It's called the Zones of Regulation!

✨ What Is a Zone?

Imagine your feelings are like different colours, and we can group them into four special zones. Each zone tells us how we are feeling and what we might need to help us feel better.

  1. Blue Zone – This zone represents feelings like sad, tired, or bored. When you're in the blue zone, you might want to rest or talk to someone.

  2. Green Zone – Yay! This is the zone where we feel happy, calm, and ready to learn. We can focus and do our best when we're in the green zone!

  3. Yellow Zone – In the yellow zone, you might feel a bit frustrated, nervous, or excited. It's important to recognise this and find ways to calm down a little!

  4. Red Zone – The red zone means we are really angry, scared, or overwhelmed. When we're in the red zone, we might need to take a break and breathe deeply.

🌈 Let's Start Our Day!

To kick off our lesson, let's all take a moment to think about which zone we are in right now. You can put your hand over your heart, close your eyes, and take a deep breath.

Once you've thought about it, I want you to stand up and show me with your hands which zone you're in:

❓ Sharing Time

Now, let’s share our feelings! If you feel comfortable, you can tell us which zone you are in and why. Remember, it's perfectly okay to have different feelings, and we’re here to help one another!

🎨 Activity: Colour Your Zone!

After our sharing time, we will do a colourful activity where you'll create your own Zones of Regulation Colour Chart! You can use crayons or markers to colour each zone based on how it feels to you.

This will help you remember what each zone means and how to recognise your feelings every day. Let’s get started! 🌟

Happy learning, everyone! Let's explore our feelings together! 😊🌈
