Lesson Introduction: Division Adventure

Welcome to Division Land!

Hook: The Pirate Treasure Hunt

Imagine you are a brave pirate captain sailing the high seas in search of buried treasure! 🏴‍☠️ As you and your crew discover a mysterious map, you find out that the treasure is hidden in a chest with 100 golden coins!

Here’s the challenge: There are 5 pirate crews on your ship, and you need to share the treasure equally amongst everyone. Can you figure out how many coins each crew will receive?

Task: Start the Adventure

  1. Turn to your partner and share your ideas on how you would divide the 100 coins among the 5 crews.
  2. Think: What does ‘dividing’ mean? How can we make sure everyone gets the same amount?

Group Discussion

After discussing with your partner, we’ll come together as a class and compare our thoughts. Remember, today’s lesson will focus on the concept of division and how it allows us to share things equally — just like our pirate coins!

Later in the lesson, we’ll go on a "Division Adventure" where you will solve fun scenarios using division with your own groups! Are you ready? Let’s get started on our quest for treasure! ⚓️💰

This engaging introduction aims to spark curiosity and provide a context for division that is relatable and fun for Year 3 students. By linking the concept to a narrative about pirates, it invites students to participate actively from the very beginning, setting a positive tone for the lesson ahead.
