By the end of this lesson, students will be able to understand and use basic phrasal verbs in sentences.
Begin the lesson by asking students if they know what a phrasal verb is. Write their ideas on the whiteboard. Then, explain that a phrasal verb is a combination of a verb and one or more particles (prepositions or adverbs) that together create a new meaning.
Provide a few examples of common phrasal verbs, such as:
Present a few phrasal verbs on the whiteboard. For each verb, provide a sentence to show how it is used.
Discuss:
Distribute flashcards with phrasal verbs to students in small groups. Each flashcard will have the phrasal verb on one side and a sentence with a missing word on the other.
