Welcome, Year 11 students! Today, we're diving into a topic that is not only crucial for your career prospects but also essential for personal growth: Employability Skills. To kick off our session, we’re going to engage in a thought-provoking activity that sets the stage for our discussion.
Before we begin, you'll need some materials. Please grab a piece of paper and divide it into 6 sections. In each section, write one employability skill that you think is important for success in the workplace. Here are some examples to help you get started:
Now, let’s imagine you are participating in a unique auction where the currency is your ability to demonstrate these skills. Each of you will have 10 “skills tokens” to bid with. As I call out employability skills, think about how much you would be willing to pay for each skill.
For example, if you believe communication is an essential skill for most jobs, you might choose to bid 5 tokens on it. If you think teamwork is less vital for your career choice, you might bid just 1 token. The goal is to use all your tokens strategically based on your perception of the skills' importance.
Once everyone has placed their bids, we will tally the results and discuss why certain skills garnered higher bids. This conversation will lead us into our main lesson on employability skills. As we explore these skills today, think back to your bids and consider how your choices reflect your goals and aspirations for the future.
