Today, we are going to embark on a fun-filled adventure as we explore the magical world of blends in our reading journey.
Greeting and Set-Up: Begin the lesson by greeting the students enthusiastically. Say, "Hello, explorers! Are you ready for an amazing adventure today?"
Introduce Blends: Explain what blends are by saying, "Blends are special teams of letters that work together to make one sound! For example, in the word 'snail,' the 'sn' part is a blend. Can you hear it?"
The Blend Hunt: Show students the colorful backpack and tell them it's magical. Inside, it holds special blends that we need to find to complete our treasure map.
Distribute Picture Cards: Give each student a picture card that has a word with a blend. For example, if a student has the card with a picture of a "tree," they hold up the card and say, “I found ‘tr’!”
Completing the Treasure Map: As students share their blends, draw a path on the treasure map leading from one blend to the next. Each blend they find helps us to get closer to our treasure!
Celebrating the Findings:
Once all blends are found, do a little dance or chant together using the blends. For instance:
“Sssnakes slide, blbbirds fly! Trains chug, oh my my!”
Finish the introduction by saying, “Now that we have gathered our magical blends, let's open our treasure chest of stories and see how we can use them in our reading today! Are you ready to dive in?”
This engaging approach not only introduces students to blends but also captures their imagination, making reading an exciting adventure right from the start!
