Welcome, Year 3 mathematicians! Today, we are going to embark on an exciting journey into the world of numbers. But before we dive into our lesson, I have a little surprise for you!
In the corner of our classroom, you'll notice a special "Mystery Box." Inside this box are various items, each with a unique number associated with them. They might be toys, books, or even fruits!
Guess the Number: Each of you will take a turn to pick an object from the box without showing it to anyone. Your task is to think of a number that could represent something about that object. For example, “This object is 3 times larger than a similar toy,” or “There are 4 legs on this animal toy!”
Math Magician: Once you’ve chosen your object and created your number statement, it’s your turn to be the ’Math Magician’! Share your statement with the class and see if your classmates can figure out which object you have by asking yes or no questions about the number you’ve chosen!
This activity will help us discover how numbers can describe the world around us. Just like magic, mathematics helps us understand and express our ideas!
As we proceed with our lesson, we’ll explore various mathematical concepts like addition, subtraction, and even some fun patterns using the objects in our Mystery Box.
Let’s get started on our number adventure! Who will be the first Math Magician?
By beginning the lesson in an interactive and playful manner, students will feel excited and engaged right from the start! Enjoy your mathematical adventure!
