Welcome to our exciting new lesson on Data Handling! Today, we’re going to embark on a fun adventure filled with colourful candies and valuable information. To kick things off, let’s imagine a scenario that you will all love!
Picture this: You and your friends have just opened the coolest candy store in town, and you’re responsible for keeping track of the different types of candies you sell. You have 5 types of candies:
As customers start to flock to your store, you’ll need to collect data on how many of each candy type is sold every day. Not only will you be learning how to handle data, but you will also be applying your new skills in a real-life scenario!
Gather your classmates and have a small “Candy Count” activity. Each of you will choose a candy type and pretend to sell them. Let’s say you sell a total of 20 candies today. As you sell the candies, keep track of how many of each type you sell on a piece of paper or a whiteboard.
Now, let’s gather all your data together! Create a table to display the information. It might look something like this:
Candy Type | Quantity Sold |
---|---|
Chocolate Bars | 5 |
Gummy Bears | 6 |
Sour Sweets | 3 |
Lollipops | 4 |
Jelly Beans | 2 |
Once everyone has filled in their tables, we will come together as a class to discuss the results. Ask yourselves:
After our Candy Count Challenge, we will dive into the different ways we can represent this data visually. You will learn how to create bar charts and pictograms to display your findings in a fun and exciting way.
Are you ready to become Data Handlers and candy entrepreneurs? Let’s begin our adventure into the sweet world of data handling! 🍬📈
