Introduction (5 minutes)

Begin the lesson by gathering the children in a circle. Hold up different coloured construction paper and ask the children to name the colours. Prompt them with questions like:

• "What colour is this?"
• "Can anyone find something in the room that is the same colour?"

Encourage participation and reinforce correct answers with praise.

Activity 1: Colour Sorting (10 minutes)

1. Set Up: Spread out various colourful objects/toys on a large mat or table.
2. Instructions: Tell the children they will play a sorting game. Assign each child a colour and ask them to find and pick up objects that match their colour.
3. Discussion: Once the sorting is complete, gather the children to discuss the different colours they found. Ask questions such as:
   • "What object did you find that was red?"
   • "Can anyone tell me two things that are blue?"

Activity 2: Exploring Colour Mixing (10 minutes)

1. Set Up: Prepare a table with primary colours of paint and brushes/sponges. Provide each child with a piece of white paper.
2. Instructions: Explain that they will create new colours by mixing the primary colours together.
3. Demonstration: Show them how to mix red and yellow to make orange, blue and yellow to make green, and red and blue to make purple. Encourage them to explore different combinations.
4. Creativity Time: Allow children to paint and experiment with colours freely for about 5 minutes, encouraging them to discuss what colours they are combining.

Conclusion (5 minutes)

Gather the children back in a circle and discuss what they created. Ask each child to share their painting and identify the colours they used. Reinforce the names of colours and the concept of mixing.
