Good morning, everyone! Today, we are going to embark on an exciting adventure into the world of partitioning. But before we dive in, let me ask you a fun question: What do you get when you share a big yummy pizza with your friends? 🍕
Imagine you have a whole pizza and you want to share it with your two friends—that makes three of you in total! If you cut the pizza into equal parts, how many pieces will each of you get?
Let’s find out together!
Let’s Count! First, let’s look at the pizza. If we cut it into 3 equal slices, each person will get 1 slice.
What If? Now, what if we had more friends? If we invite 3 more friends (making it 6 of you), how many slices do we need? If we cut the pizza into 6 pieces, each person will get 1 slice.
To help us understand partitioning better, we are going to create our own pizzas!
Decorate Your Plate: Use the markers to turn your paper plate into a delicious pizza. You can add toppings like pepperoni, mushrooms, or even some veggies!
Cut the Pizza: After decorating, we will cut our pizzas into different numbers of slices. Let's start with 2 slices, 4 slices, and even 6 slices.
Share Your Pizza: Once you have your slices, let's practice sharing them with your classmates. Each group will count how many slices they have and see how many each person gets!
Label the Slices: Use sticky notes to write the number of slices and share how you divided your pizza with the class.
