# Welcome to Place Value Adventure!
## Introduction
Hey, explorers! Today we’re setting off on an exciting journey into the magical land of **Place Value**. Are you ready to uncover the secret treasures hidden in the numbers? Let’s get our explorer hats on!
## Warm-Up: Number Detective
Before we begin our adventure, let’s play a quick game called **Number Detective**!
**Instructions:**
1. I’ll write down a two-digit number on the board, like **43**.
2. You’ll put on your detective hats and shout out the value of each digit!
- For example, what’s the value of the **4** in **43**? That’s right! It’s **40** because it’s in the tens place!
3. After we’ve solved a few numbers together, I’ll give you a chance to be the detective! I'll write down a number, and you can show us how to read it.
## The Adventure Begins
Now, let’s dive into the world of place value with our **Place Value Treasure Map**!
Imagine that each number is like a treasure chest, and we have to find out how much treasure (value) is in each chest, depending on where it’s located!
- **Ones**: The smallest treasure chests hold the individual gems. Each gem here is worth **1**!
- **Tens**: The next size of treasure! Each chest holds bundles of **10** gems. So, one treasure chest can hold **10**, **20**, **30**, and so on!
- **Hundreds**: The biggest treasure chests hold **100** gems! That’s a whole lot of treasure!
## Discussion: What’s In My Chest?
Next, let’s create our own treasure chests using place value! I’ll hand out paper chests for you to decorate. You will fill it with “gems” representing a number of your choice.
### Questions to Think About:
- How many **ones**, **tens**, and **hundreds** will you have?
- What number does your treasure chest represent?
## Conclusion
At the end of our lesson, each explorer will present their treasure chest to the class. We will practice reading the number, identifying the place values, and sharing the treasure each part holds.
