Introduction (5 Minutes)
- Engage the Students
- Begin with a brief discussion on what comprehension means.
- Ask students why understanding what they read is important.
- Share an interesting fact or question related to the text they will read to pique their interest.
Guided Practice (10 Minutes)

Read Aloud
- Distribute the printed copies of the short story titled “The Adventure in the Woods.”
- Read the story aloud to the class. Encourage students to follow along.
- Pause intermittently to ask predictive questions such as, “What do you think will happen next?” or “How do you think the character feels?”

Highlighting Key Information
- After reading, instruct students to use highlighters or coloured pencils to underline or highlight keywords or phrases that they think are essential to understanding the story.
Independent Practice (10 Minutes)

- Give students a set of comprehension questions based on the text. Questions may include:
- What was the main idea of the story?
- Describe the main character. What challenges did they face?
- What lesson do you think the character learned?
