Welcome, little mathematicians! Today, we’re going to embark on a magical math adventure that’s all about 10 frames! Who’s excited to learn with numbers? I know I am!
Before we dive into 10 frames, let’s imagine we are in a Magical Number Forest. Picture this: as we walk through the forest, we meet friendly little creatures called Number Gnomes. Each gnome has a special job: they love to help us count and play with numbers. 🎩✨
One sunny day, the Number Gnomes gathered around the Big Counting Tree and found a mystery: they need our help to fill the 10-frame with colorful magic stones! Each stone represents a number. Let’s help them count how many stones it takes to fill the frame while learning about the number 1!
Show the 10 Frame: Point to the 10 frame you've drawn. Explain that this frame can hold up to 10 magical stones.
Place One Stone: Start our adventure by placing one stone in the first box of the 10 frame. Say, “Look, we made the number 1! That’s our first magic stone!”
Counting Together: Ask the children to all say “1” together as they point to the stone.
Let’s Add More!: Now encourage the children to help you add more stones to the frame. Count together with each new stone added and fill it up to 10, changing the tone of your voice for each number to make it exciting!
Story Time Wrap-Up: Once the frame is filled, tell the children, “We did it! Together we filled the frame with 10 stones! Isn’t that magical?”
Reflection: Ask them to share what their favorite magic stone was and if they can think of other things they can count in groups of 10.
Now that we’ve had fun filling up the 10 frame with our magical stones, you are all ready to be Number Gnomes too! Remember, math can be as fun and magical as our adventure today! Who knows what we’ll discover next time? Let’s keep counting and learning together!
For fun at home, find objects around your house (like toys or fruit) and see how many you can group into a 10 frame! Draw it out and show your family what you discovered!
With this engaging introduction, your students will be excited about learning with 10 frames, making math a fun and memorable experience!
