Today we are going to dive into the wonderful world of the ukulele! By the end of the lesson, you will know what a ukulele is, how it sounds, and maybe even how to strum a few notes. Are you ready to make some music?
Mystery Box: At the beginning of the lesson, introduce your "Surprise Sound Box." Tell the students that it contains something special that makes music.
Guess the Sound: One by one, let the students take turns pulling out an object from the box without showing the rest of the class. As each item is revealed, allow the students to guess what sound it makes.
The Ukulele Reveal: When the small ukulele is pulled out last, strum it gently and say, “This is a ukulele! Let's explore how we can make music with it together!”
Ask Questions: After revealing the ukulele, ask the students what they think about the sound it makes. Questions like:
Show Images: Share a picture of a ukulele and point out its unique features (four strings, small body). Explain its origins briefly and how it is used in different types of music.
Conclude the lesson by discussing how the ukulele can be used in different types of songs and how they can make their own music. Encourage the students to listen for the ukulele in their favourite songs at home!
Ask the students to find one song they love that features a ukulele and come prepared to share it in the next lesson!
