The Treasure Map Challenge

Imagine a big, colourful map laid out on your desks. The map shows us different landmarks, like the Number Forest 🌳, the Tens Treetop 🌲, and the Ones Oasis 🌊. Each landmark represents a part of our lesson today!

Step 1: Prepare for the Journey

• Materials Needed:
  • A large piece of paper or a whiteboard
  • A colourful marker
  • A small bag or a box (to represent our treasure chest)

Step 2: Setting the Scene

Let’s gather around our treasure map! As a class, we will take turns “travelling” to each landmark. At each stop, we’ll unlock secrets about our numbers up to 50!

Step 3: The First Stop – The Number Forest 🌳

• Activity: We will count the trees (numbers) together.
• Engagement: “Can anyone tell me how many trees we have?”
• Discussion: What number comes after 7? What comes before 5?

Each time we count something, we get closer to the treasure hidden at the Place Value Palace!

Step 4: The Second Stop – The Tens Treetop 🌲

Here, we will learn about tens!

• Ask: “How many groups of ten can we see in our treasure chest?”
• Use your fingers to make groups of tens and ones.
• Visual Aid: Draw ten apples on the board and one apple next to it. That makes 11!

Step 5: The Final Destination – The Ones Oasis 🌊

At our last stop, we will mix ones with our tens!

• Interactive Game: Let’s build our own numbers! I will say a number between 1 and 50, and you will tell me how many tens and how many ones are in it.
• For example, if I say 23, you’ll shout, “Two tens and three ones!”
