Hook: The Magic Sound Box

To kick off our lesson, we will start with a Magic Sound Box activity!

What You'll Need:

• A small box or bag (the "Magic Sound Box")
• A few common items that represent different beginning sounds (e.g., a toy car, a ball, a picture of a cat, a book, etc.)

How It Works:

1. Gather Around: Gather in a circle on the carpet.
2. Introduce the Box: Hold up the Magic Sound Box and explain that inside are items that all share a special magic: they all begin with different sounds!
3. Sound Guessing Game:
   • One by one, take an item out of the box.
   • Show the item to the class and say the name of the item clearly.
   • Ask the students to listen carefully to the beginning sound of the word.
   • Encourage them to guess which sound they hear. For example, if you pull out the car, you can say, “What sound does car start with?”
4. Chant the Sound Together: Once they guess correctly, invite the whole class to chant the sound together. For example, “C-c-c, car!” This way, everyone is participating and reinforcing their phonics skills.

Create Connections:

After showcasing a few items, turn to the class and ask, “Can anyone think of another word that starts with this sound?” Encourage them to shout out their ideas!
