Good morning, Year 8 artists! Today, we’re embarking on an exciting quest to unravel the mysteries of the Elements of Art. But before we dive into the elements themselves, let me set the scene for a unique adventure!
Imagine that we are a group of explorers in a vast, uncharted land filled with vibrant colours, dynamic shapes, and astonishing textures. Each one of you has been assigned the mission to discover and report back on the six treasures of our journey – the Elements of Art!
Explore - You will have 10 minutes to search around our classroom and the nearby area for visual representations of each element. You can look for lines in the architecture, shapes in the furniture, forms in nature, textures in fabrics, spaces around objects, and colours in artworks or displays.
Document - Take notes and sketches to create your own visual journal based on your discoveries. If you wish, snap a few photos to illustrate your report later.
Share - After your scavenger hunt, we will gather back as a class to share our findings. Each student will present one of their discoveries that relates to the Elements of Art, fostering a rich discussion about how these elements are fundamental to creating art.
By the end of this lesson, not only will you have a greater understanding of the Elements of Art, but you'll also feel like true explorers who've uncovered the foundational pieces of artistic creation. So, grab your notebooks and get ready for an inspiring quest!
This engaging introduction to the lesson will not only energise your students but also actively involve them in the learning process, making the elements of art relatable and tangible in their environment.
