Creative Lesson Starter: Vowel Pairs

Introduction

Good morning, third graders! Today, we’re going on a vowel adventure that’s going to be super fun! Are you ready?

Attention-Grabbing Hook: The Mystery Box

What’s in the Box?

To kick off our lesson, we’re going to play a little mystery game. I have a special box that contains several items. Each item has something to do with vowel pairs! Can anyone guess what vowel pairs are?

Instructions

  1. Gather Around: Let’s all gather around the mystery box.
  2. Hands Up: I will pull one item out at a time and show it to you. As you see each item, think about the word associated with it.
  3. Guess the Vowel Pair: When you see the item, raise your hand and share a word that contains a vowel pair. For example, if I pull out a "teapot," you might say "ea" as in "tea!"

Items in the Box

Transition to Lesson

Once we’ve gone through the items in the mystery box, I’ll ask each of you to write down the word and the vowel pair you’ve found. This will help us see how vowel pairs make our words exciting. Are you ready to unlock the magic of vowel pairs today?

Let’s dive into our vowel adventure! 🌈
