To pique students' interest in the topic of health services and encourage them to think critically about the various services available in their community.
Introducing the Box: Start the lesson by placing the mystery box on a table at the front of the classroom. Tell the students that inside the box are several items connected to health services.
The Challenge: Explain that you'll choose a few students to take turns coming up to the box, without looking inside, to feel around and pull out one item at a time. Once they take something out, they’ll describe it to the class without showing it, and the class will guess what it is.
Discussion: As items are revealed, discuss their purpose and the health service they relate to. For example:
Connect to Life: After revealing each item, ask the students:
Transition to the Lesson: Conclude the activity by saying, “Just like we explored these items today, we will dive deeper into understanding the different health services available to us, why they are important, and how they impact our lives. Are you ready to learn about the essential services that keep our community healthy?”
This engaging introduction sets the stage for a lesson on health services by inviting participation and encouraging students to think about their own interactions with health care. It prepares them for a deeper understanding of how different services benefit individuals and communities, fostering a sense of responsibility towards their health and the health of those around them.
