Welcome, class! Today, we will be exploring the wonderful world of poetry. Poetry is a form of literature that uses rhythm and language to create an emotional response in the reader. In this lesson, we will be learning how to analyze and appreciate different types of poems, as well as how to write our own.
To start off our lesson, we are going to do a poetry scavenger hunt. I have hidden various poems throughout the classroom, and your task is to find them. Once you have found a poem, read it and try to identify the following:
Once everyone has found a poem, we will discuss our findings as a class.
Now that we have warmed up our poetry analysis skills, we are going to work on analyzing a poem as a group. I will divide you into small groups and provide each group with a different poem. Your task is to analyze the poem and present your findings to the class using a visual aid (e.g. a poster, a PowerPoint slide). Your presentation should include the following:
For our final activity, we will be putting our poetry writing skills to the test. Using the literary devices and techniques we have learned about today, you will each write your own poem. Your poem can be about anything you want, but it must be at least eight lines long and include at least two literary devices or techniques. Once you have finished writing your poem, you will have the opportunity to share it with the class.
Congratulations, you have completed our poetry lesson! I hope you have learned a lot about analyzing and appreciating poems, as well as how to write your own. Keep practicing your poetry writing skills and don't forget to always read and appreciate the wonderful world of poetry.
