To break the ice and help students get to know each other in a fun and interactive way.
Gather the students in a circle. Introduce the Mystery Box and explain that it contains various items. Tell them that each item has a story or a memory connected to it.
Pass around the Mystery Box and allow each student to choose an item without revealing it to anyone else. Once everyone has chosen an item, give them a few minutes to think about what it represents or what story it could tell.
Ask each student to share their item with the class. They should explain:
Encourage students to listen actively and ask one question to the presenter after their turn.
After everyone has shared, hand out sticky notes and ask the students to write one thing they learned about a classmate that surprised or interested them. They can stick these notes on a designated “Reflection Wall” in the classroom.
Conclude the activity by reflecting on the importance of sharing stories and how each item reflects a part of who we are. Remind students that each of us has a unique story to tell, and getting to know those stories helps us build connections.
Finish with a group activity like a quick game of “Two Truths and a Lie,” using items from the Mystery Box as prompts for some fun trivia about each other!
This icebreaker will not only help the students learn about one another but will also foster a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere in the classroom. Enjoy your lesson!
