In this lesson, we will focus on making connections while reading. Making connections helps us understand the story better by relating it to our own experiences, the world around us, or other things we have read. Here are three questions to discuss with the class:
Question: Can you think of a time when you felt like a character in a story? What happened in your life that was similar to what the character experienced?
Encourage students to share personal experiences and connect them to characters or events in stories they have read. This helps them relate their feelings and actions to those of the characters.
Question: Have you ever read a story that reminded you of something happening in the world today? What was it, and what connection did you make?
Guide students to think about news stories, events in their community, or environmental issues that relate to themes or events in the book. This link helps them understand the broader context of literature.
Question: Can you think of another book that is similar to the story we just read? What are the similarities between the two stories?
Encourage students to compare elements such as characters, settings, or themes between different books they have read. This reinforces their understanding of literary elements and encourages deeper thinking about stories.
Feel free to use these questions to spark meaningful conversations about reading and to help your students practice making connections!
