Introduction to Leadership: The Power of Positive Influence

Objective:

In this lesson, students will explore the concept of leadership and understand the qualities that make an effective leader.

Hook: The Leadership Challenge Game

Materials Needed:

Instructions:

  1. Gather the Students: Bring the whole class together and get them excited. Tell them that they are about to undertake a fun challenge.

  2. Explain the Activity:

    • Tell the students that they will be participating in a quick game called the "Leadership Challenge."
    • Explain that one student will start by sharing one quality of a good leader (for example, “a good leader listens to others”).
    • After they share, they will toss the ball to another student, who must then share another quality. The goal is to see how many qualities they can come up with in one minute!
  3. Set the Timer: If you have a timer, set it for one minute and encourage students to pass the ball quickly to each other.

  4. Capture Responses: As the students share their ideas, write them down on the whiteboard. This will create a visual list of leadership qualities.

  5. Wrap Up the Game: After the timer goes off, review the list of qualities created by the students. Ask the class what they think makes these qualities important in a leader.

Transition to Lesson:

Now that we've brainstormed our ideas, let's dive deeper into what it means to be a leader. We'll explore different leadership styles, discuss examples of leaders we admire, and think about how we can develop our own leadership skills! Are you ready to become a leader in your own way? Let’s go!

Closing:

By starting our lesson with the Leadership Challenge Game, we not only warmed up our thinking about leadership concepts but also encouraged teamwork and participation among classmates. Leadership is all about inspiring and influencing others, and today we will learn how to harness our own potential!
