Teacher's Note
Today, we are going to embark on a wonderful journey through the land of numbers! Are you ready for an adventure? Make sure your imagination is turned on because we are about to discover something exciting!
Invite the students to gather in a circle on the carpet. Sit down comfortably and let them know they are about to explore a magical place known as "Number Land."
Read Aloud: "The Great Number Adventure"
Tell the students a short story like this:
"Once upon a time in Number Land, there lived a brave little boy named Benny the Brave. Benny loved numbers! One day, he woke up and found that his magical number friends—1, 2, 3, all the way to 10—were missing! Benny knew that he needed the help of his friends to find them. They would have to solve fun puzzles and play games along the way to bring them back. But first, they needed to gather all their counting skills!"
Draw on the board or present cute number characters, each representing numbers 1 through 10.
Ask the class:
After engaging with the story, tell the class that to help Benny, they must work together to solve a variety of number challenges throughout the day!
Challenge Example:
“Benny needs your help to count his treasure. If he has 4 shiny coins and finds 3 more, how many coins does he have now? Let's count together!”
After discussing the challenge, transition into the math lesson by stating:
"Are you all ready to help Benny find his numbers and solve some exciting math puzzles? Let’s turn our adventure into a number-finding mission!"
By weaving storytelling, imagination, and counting skills into the start of your lesson, you set a positive and engaging tone for learning. The children will be excited to contribute and participate, making math fun and relatable right from the beginning!
