Today, we're going on a special adventure into the world of words! Before we dive in, let’s start with a little activity that will kick off our lesson on digraphs.
Gather Around: Have all students gather in a circle. Show them the mystery box or bag without revealing its contents.
Explain the Mission: Tell the students they are now "Digraph Detectives" and their mission is to uncover hidden digraphs! A digraph is a special pair of letters that work together to make one sound. For example, "ch," "sh," and "th."
Reveal the Box: One by one, take out items or pictures from the mystery box. As you pull out each item, encourage the students to shout out the name of the item.
Identify the Digraph: After naming the item, ask the class if they can identify any digraphs in the word. For example:
Digraph Detective Badge: Once each student has identified a digraph, give them their "Digraph Detective" badge to wear proudly throughout the lesson!
After this fun and engaging introduction, the students will be excited and ready to learn more about digraphs. Following this activity, you can move on to identify more digraphs through reading exercises, writing practice, and games!
