Today, we will dive into the exciting world of reading to uncover the main idea of a story! By the end of our lesson, you will be able to identify what a story is mostly about and why it's important.
Once upon a time in a little town, a mysterious box appeared on the top of Old Man Jenkins' porch. It was shiny and had colorful stickers all over it. Every day, the children in the town wondered what was inside. Some said it could be a treasure, while others thought it might be filled with magical toys. After many days of waiting, Old Man Jenkins finally opened the box. Inside, there were beautiful colorful kites! The children cheered and ran outside to fly their new kites together on a sunny day.
Think: As you listen to the story, think about what you believe the main idea might be. What do you think the story is mostly about?
Pair: Turn to a partner and share your thoughts. Discuss why you think that is the main idea. Remember to listen to your friend's ideas too!
Share: We will come together as a class, and each pair will share their ideas about the main message of the story!
This activity will help you discover how to find the main idea in any story. Let’s get ready to explore more stories together and become main idea detectives! Are you excited? Let’s get started with our first reading!
