Lesson Overview
This lesson involves engaging activities to introduce preschoolers to the topic of pets. The lesson will include visual aids, storytelling, and a hands-on drawing activity.
Introduction (5 minutes)
- Begin the lesson by greeting the children and introducing the topic of pets.
- Ask the children if they have pets at home.
- Show pictures of different types of pets and encourage students to name the pets they see.
Activity 1: Story Time (10 minutes)
- Read a storybook about pets to the children. Choose a book such as "Pete the Cat: Try New Things" or "The Pigeon Wants a Puppy!"
- As you read, pause to ask questions about the pets in the story. Encourage children to share their thoughts and feelings about the pets.
Activity 2: Pet Show and Tell (5 minutes)
- Invite each child to choose a toy animal from the collection you’ve prepared.
- Allow them a moment to share with the class which pet they chose and one fact about that pet.
- Encourage the children to use descriptive words (e.g., "fluffy," "small," "friendly") to describe their toy.
Activity 3: Drawing Time (7 minutes)
- Distribute paper and markers to each child.
- Ask the children to draw their favorite pet or a pet they wish to have.
- Encourage them to think about what colors their pet might be and to include any special features.
Activity 4: Video Time (3 minutes)
- Show a short video clip of various pets that are friendly and playful.
- Ask the children to pay attention to how the pets interact with people and each other.
Conclusion (5 minutes)
- Gather the children in a circle and recap what they learned about pets during the lesson.
- Encourage children to share their drawings with the class.
- Ask them to share one thing they learned about pets.

- Informally assess children's understanding through their participation in discussions and their ability to express their thoughts during the activities.
- Observe each child's drawing to see how well they can identify and represent their favorite pet.
