Welcome to the Phonics Adventure!

Introduction

Objective: Today, we are going to embark on a magical journey to learn about sounds and letters!

Hook: The Sound Safari

Materials Needed:

Activity Steps:

  1. Gather the Students: Invite all the children to sit in a circle around you.

"Welcome, young explorers! Today, we are going on a Sound Safari, where we will discover amazing animal sounds and the letters that make those sounds!"

  2. Introduce the Safari Map: "Here is our safari map! Each section has a different animal. As we move through our map, we will meet some friendly animals and learn the sounds they make."

  3. Draw a Card: Select an animal sound card from a pile. Show the picture to the children but keep the sound hidden for now.

"Whoa! Look at this animal! Can anyone guess what animal this is?" (Allow guesses.)

  4. Make the Animal Noise: After the guesses, turn the card around to reveal the sound and say it out loud. For example, if it’s a lion, say “ROAR!”

"That’s right! It’s a lion, and it goes ROAR! Now, who can tell me which letter sound starts with 'L' for lion?"

  5. Repeat for Each Animal: Continue this process for several animals, encouraging the kids to mimic the sounds and identify the starting letters. Have fun with it!

Conclusion

Wrap-Up: "Wow, explorers! Today we heard so many sounds and learned that letters can make those sounds! This is just the beginning of our phonics adventure. Remember, every letter has a special sound, and together they create words! Let’s bring our exciting learning back to our classroom and get ready to explore more sounds!"
