Show the Treasure Map: Point to a treasure map that shows various locations with numbers written on it (e.g. 3, 45, 267). Ask students if they notice anything special about the numbers.
Introduce the Concept of Place Value: Explain that just as X marks the spot on a treasure map, the place of digits in a number helps us know what treasure they hold! For example, in the number 267, the '2' isn't just a 2; it's actually 200 because it's in the hundreds place! Can anyone tell me what the '6' and '7' represent?
