Introduction to the Piano

"Good morning, everyone! Today, we’re going to have a lot of fun learning about the piano! Can anyone tell me what this is?" (Hold up a picture of the piano.)

"That’s right! It’s a piano! The piano has many parts. Let’s learn some of them together. Can anyone tell me what they see? This is the keyboard where the music comes from. And these are the keys! There are white keys and black keys. Can you all show me where the white keys are? Great! Now, if we press a key, we can make beautiful sounds! So, let’s be gentle and have fun as we explore the piano today!"

Finger Exercises

"Now, let's use our fingers! Everyone, please stand in front of the keyboards or digital pianos. First, let’s stretch our fingers. Can you stretch your fingers out wide like this?" (Demonstrate finger stretching.)

"Good job! Now we’re going to practice moving our fingers on the keys. Can everyone put their right hand on the keyboard? Let's press the first five white keys together. Ready? One, two, three, go!” (Guide them through the exercise.)

"That’s it! Now, let’s switch to our left hand! Can you show me your left hand? Let’s press those same keys with the left hand. One, two, three, go!"

"Wonderful! You’re all doing such a great job. Let’s try to do this a little faster. Remember to keep your fingers relaxed!"

Group Activity

"Now, let’s have some fun together in small groups! I’m going to divide you into groups, and each group will have their own keyboard. When I say 'Go!', I want you to explore and create your own simple melodies. You can choose any keys you like! Ready? Go!"

(Walk around to observe and encourage each group. Offer assistance as needed.)

"Wow! I can hear some lovely sounds coming from your keyboards! Work together and maybe even create a little song. Remember, it's all about having fun and sharing your ideas!"

Listening Activity

"Okay, friends, let’s pause the music for a moment. I have a special treat for you! I’m going to play a beautiful piano piece. Listen closely and think about how it makes you feel. Ready? Here we go!" (Play the audio of a kid-friendly piano piece.)

"Now, what did you think? Was it fast or slow? How did it make you feel? Did anyone hear something special in the music? Feel free to share your thoughts!"

Drawing and Reflection

"Now it’s time to get a little creative! I’d like you to take some colored markers and paper. Can you draw your favorite part of today’s lesson? Maybe you want to draw the piano or even the music you created with your friends. Take a moment to think about it."

"When you’re done, please share your drawing with a partner. Tell them what you drew and what you loved about it!"

"Great job today, everyone! You all did wonderfully. Remember to take home your practice sheet and have fun! I can’t wait to see your drawings and what you practice at home. Have a lovely day!"
