Welcome, young mathematicians! Today, we are going to embark on an exciting adventure in the Magical Kingdom of Numbers. In this kingdom, numbers are not just digits; they are our friends who help us solve mysteries!
In this kingdom, there’s a very special skill that our hero, Math Wizard, needs to learn: subtraction with regrouping. Sometimes, when our wizard tries to take away things from his treasure chest, he finds he needs a little help! Let’s find out what happens in this adventure.
Imagine our Math Wizard has a treasure chest filled with 25 shiny jewels. He decides to give 17 jewels to his best friend, the Fairy of Friendship.
First, we need to do some subtraction. But wait! We can’t subtract 7 from 5. There’s a little problem! This is where regrouping (or borrowing) will come in handy.
Write it Down:
25
- 17
------
Regrouping:
2 (becomes 1 after borrowing)
15
- 17
------
Now that we’ve regrouped, can anybody tell me how many jewels our Math Wizard has left?
Let’s use our minds and pencils. Work with your neighbor to figure out how many jewels are left in the treasure chest!
Remember:
Soon, we’ll unveil the treasure together!
Once the mystery is solved, we will share our answers and celebrate our victory in the Magical Kingdom of Numbers!
