To introduce fourth-grade students to the Spanish days of the week in a fun and engaging way.
Begin with a Short Story: Gather the students in a circle and tell them a magical story.
"Once upon a time, in a vibrant village in Spain, there lived a group of playful animals who loved to celebrate each day of the week. They had a special activity for every day—sometimes they danced, sometimes they sang, and on Fridays, they threw a big party! The animals were excited to share their adventures with you, and they need your help to remember the names of the days so they can plan their next fun-filled week!"
Play Music: Start playing an upbeat Spanish song as you transition into the next part of the lesson. While the music plays, ask students to move around the classroom, pretending to be the animals from the story.
"As you move, think about what each animal would do on each day of the week! Would the rabbit dance on Monday? Would the bear have a picnic on Saturday?"
Flashcard Activity: Once the music stops, gather the students again. Show them flashcards representing activities for each day (like going to school or playing soccer). As you show each flashcard, reveal the Spanish name for each day:
Fill in the Calendar: Use the large calendar chart to write down each day in Spanish as students share ideas about their favorite activities for those days. This will create a visual reminder of the days of the week.
Incorporate Movement: At the end of the class, have students stand up and shout out their favorite day of the week and what they love doing that day, both in English and in Spanish!
By using storytelling, music, visualization, and interaction, your students will not only learn the days of the week in Spanish but will also immerse themselves in the lively culture associated with those days.
Next lesson, we will dive deeper into how to use these days in sentences. Get ready for more fun and adventure ahead!
