Large Motor Skills Adventure

Welcome, Little Explorers!

Today, we are going to embark on an exciting journey to discover our large motor skills! Are you ready to move, jump, and play? Let’s get those bodies moving and those arms and legs stretching!

Opening Activity: The Amazing Animal Parade

Objective: To encourage children to use their large motor skills through fun, active movement.

What You'll Need:

Let's Get Started!

  1. Gather ‘Round!
Bring the children together in a circle and explain that today, they will be transforming into different animals and going on a fun parade!

  2. Choose Your Animal:
Ask each child to pick their favorite animal. If they need help, you can show them some pictures or toys for inspiration!

  3. Movement Time:
    Introduce how each animal moves:

    • Bunny: Hop like a bunny!
    • Elephant: Stomp like an elephant!
    • Bird: Flap your wings and fly!
    • Cheetah: Run super fast like a cheetah!
  4. Animal Parade:
Let’s start the parade! Play some fun music and encourage the children to move around the space like their chosen animals. Join in the fun yourself!

  5. Freeze and Share:
After a couple of minutes, pause the music and ask the children to freeze in their animal pose. Invite them to share why they chose their animal and how it moves.

Reflection and Cool Down

After the parade, we can sit in a circle again and talk about all the fun movements we just did! Ask questions like:

Wrap-Up

Let’s all take a few deep breaths together to calm down after our big adventure! Inhale deeply through the nose and exhale slowly through the mouth.

Closing Song

Finish the lesson with a fun song about moving and grooving! Perhaps something like "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes," where everyone can join in with the actions.

Encouraging large motor skill development in preschoolers through imaginative play not only promotes physical health but also boosts confidence and social skills. Happy exploring!
