Begin the lesson by entering the classroom with a lovely musical tune playing in the background. As the students settle down, reveal a large picture of a tree that is bare of leaves.
“Good morning, everyone! I’m so excited to see all your smiling faces as we start a brand new school year together! Look at this beautiful tree! Right now, it looks bare and empty, but just like us at the beginning of this school year, it has so much potential to grow and become something amazing!”
“Let’s imagine that each of you is a special leaf on this tree. This year, you will grow, learn new things, and become even more awesome. I want each of you to think about one thing you wish to learn this school year. It can be reading a new book, drawing better, making friends, or anything that makes your heart happy!
Take a moment to think. When you have an idea, I want you to share it with the class. After everyone shares, I will give you a green paper leaf to write your idea on. Later, we can attach all our leaves to the tree picture, showing how together we are going to grow this year!”
“Just like leaves on a tree help it grow strong, each one of you brings something special to our classroom. Together, we can build a nurturing and exciting environment. Our tree will become full and vibrant as we learn and grow together!”
“Now that we’ve shared our dreams and wishes, let’s think about how we can water our tree with kindness, respect, and curiosity this year. Let's get started on our first activity!”
This engaging approach sets a positive tone for the lesson, encourages students to express their hopes, and fosters a sense of community right at the beginning of the school year.
