Introduction of Self in CNA Program
Icebreaker Activity: "Health Journey Timeline"
Welcome to the introduction of yourself session for the Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program! To kick off our course in a fun and engaging way, we are going to create a Health Journey Timeline. This activity is designed to help you not only introduce yourself but also to share your experiences and aspirations in the field of healthcare.
Objectives
- Foster a welcoming and open environment for sharing.
- Encourage participants to reflect on their health journeys and goals.
- Build a sense of community among classmates.
Materials Needed
- A large piece of butcher paper or a whiteboard
- Markers (various colors)
- Sticky notes
- Optional: a digital tool (like Padlet or Google Slides) if the session is virtual
Instructions
-
Set Up:
- If you're in a classroom, put the butcher paper or whiteboard in a prominent spot. If you're online, share the digital tool link in the chat.
-
Create Your Timeline:
- Each participant will receive sticky notes or a digital equivalent.
- On one sticky note, write a significant health-related experience or moment from your life (e.g., "Cared for my grandmother during her illness" or "Overcame a personal health challenge").
- On a second sticky note, write a goal or aspiration you have regarding your career in healthcare (e.g., "Become a compassionate provider" or "Make a difference in elderly care").
-
Share and Place:
- One by one, introduce yourself by stating your name and briefly sharing your timeline experiences.
- Stick the notes on the timeline, which can flow from past experiences on the left to future aspirations on the right.
- As you share, feel free to add any relevant personal touches or anecdotes.
-
Reflect and Connect:
- After everyone has shared, take a moment to observe the timeline. Discuss common themes, shared experiences, and surprising connections within the group.
- Invite participants to engage in conversations with their classmates based on shared interests or experiences that emerged during the activity.
Conclusion
This activity will not only help you practice introducing yourself but will also lay the groundwork for a supportive and collaborative learning environment. Remember, as future Certified Nursing Assistants, it’s crucial to connect with your peers, as teamwork and communication are vital in the healthcare field.
We hope this activity sets the tone for an enriching and interactive course ahead! Let's embark on this journey together, building our skills to provide the best care for those we will serve.
