Introduction to Social Emotional Learning

Welcome, Super Friends!

Hello, amazing third graders! Today, we're going on an exciting adventure into the world of feelings and friendships. Before we dive in, let’s start with a fun activity to get our brains ready!

Feelings Jar Activity

Imagine a magical jar filled with colorful, swirling emotions! Each color represents a different feeling. Some colors are warm and happy like sunshine (that's joy!), while others may be cool and calm like a quiet breeze (that's peaceful).

Let’s make our very own Feelings Jar!

  1. Get Ready:

    • Gather some small jars or clear plastic cups and a variety of colorful markers or crayons.
  2. Pick Your Colors:

    • Think about how you feel today. Is it a bright, sunny yellow because you’re excited? Or maybe a cool blue because you’re feeling calm? Choose colors that match your feelings!
  3. Decorate Your Jar:

    • Use the markers or crayons to decorate your jar. Label each color with the feeling it represents. For example, “Green = Happy” or “Red = Angry”.
  4. Share with a Friend:

    • Once everyone is done, let’s sit in a circle and share what colors we chose and why. It’s a wonderful way to learn about each other’s feelings and discover that we all feel different things at different times!

What’s Next?

Now that we’ve created our Feelings Jars, we can use them throughout our lessons to express how we’re feeling. Understanding our emotions helps us communicate better with our friends, resolve conflicts, and make our classroom a happier place.

Are you ready to uncover the superpowers of social emotional learning? Let’s get started! 🌈
