Objective: Today, we’re going to explore the Author's Purpose! But before we dive in, I want to take you on a little adventure.
Activity:
Imagine you’re standing in front of a magical doorway. This doorway leads to the minds of all your favorite authors! Each author writes stories for a special reason, and as we step through this gateway, we’ll discover why they chose to share their creations.
Instructions to Students:
Visualize: Close your eyes and picture the doorway. What color is it? Is it big or small? Is it covered in glittering stars or maybe decorated with characters from your favorite books?
Think: As you stand before this door, I want you to think about your favorite book. What do you believe the author wanted to achieve by writing that story? Were they trying to make you laugh, teach you something, or take you on an exciting adventure?
Share: Now, open your eyes! Turn to your partner and share your thoughts. Take turns talking about the author's purpose in the stories you love.
Great job, everyone! Now that we’ve warmed up our imaginations, let’s open our books and dive into understanding the different reasons why authors write. We’ll learn about entertain, inform, and persuade, and how to uncover the purpose behind their words!
