Blast Off to Multiplication!

Objective

Today, we’re going to take a fun trip to Space while learning about multiplication! Get ready to become a multiplication astronaut!

Introduction (5 minutes)

Imagine that we are on a spaceship ready to blast off into the stars. Before we can take off, we need to gather our supplies. But here’s the fun part: each astronaut needs to have the exact same number of supplies!

Activity Setup (10 minutes)

  1. Supplies Challenge:

    • First, gather 4 big paper stars (you can color them yellow or use shiny paper—whatever you prefer).
    • Next, we need to pretend each star represents a group of 2 space snack packs.
  2. Count Together:

    • Hold up one star and say, “1 star has 2 snack packs.”
    • Now hold up 2 stars and say, “2 stars have ____ snack packs.”
    • Continue this way until you hold up all 4 stars.

The Big Idea (5 minutes)

Conclusion (5 minutes)

As we continue our journey today, remember, multiplication is just another way to add the same number over and over again. Just like in our example:

Ready for Blast Off?

Let's get those rockets ready for math exploration through multiplication! Buckle up and let’s start our mission! 🚀
