Objective: Introduce Year 1 students to 3D shapes in a fun and engaging way.
Materials Needed:
Start by telling a short, exciting story to the class:
“Once upon a time in a magical land full of shapes, a group of 3D shapes needed help from brave adventurers like you! They have gotten lost in our classroom, and if we don’t find them, they won’t be able to go back to their shape village! Are you ready to be our brave explorers?”
Bring out the large cardboard box or treasure chest and cover it with the colourful cloth. Tell the students that the shapes have hidden inside this chest and need their help to explore. This will spark curiosity!
After discovering each 3D shape, encourage students to connect the shape to objects around them. For example, a sphere may remind them of a ball, and a cylinder could be a drink can.
End the introduction by stating:
“Today, we will embark on an exciting journey to learn all about these shapes and even create our own! Are you ready to become shape experts?”
This engaging introduction will not only captivate the students’ attention but will also lay the foundation for the subsequent lesson on 3D shapes, fostering enthusiasm and connection to the topic!
