Kia ora tamariki! 🌟 Today we're going on an exciting adventure to discover the magical world of patterns in numbers! Before we dive into our lesson, I have a fun activity for you that will get our brains warmed up and ready to see patterns all around us!
Let's see who can find the most interesting patterns in our classroom!
Look Around: Take a moment to observe your surroundings. Notice any patterns you can see. This could be in the tiles on the floor, the books on the shelf, or even the way your peers are sitting.
Count the Patterns: Choose one pattern that catches your eye. Think about how many times it repeats. For example, if you see red and blue blocks arranged in a row, how many times does it repeat?
Share with a Partner: Turn to your partner and describe the pattern you found. Use your fingers to show how many times you counted!
After a few minutes, we'll come back together and share some of the amazing patterns you discovered.
Now that we've warmed up our pattern-finding skills, let’s take it to the next level!
A number pattern is just a sequence of numbers that follow a certain rule. For example, count by twos: 2, 4, 6, 8... What do you notice?
We'll create a big pattern on the board together! I'll start with the number 1, and you will help me add other numbers based on what we discover.
In small groups, you will create your own number patterns using counters. Arrange them in sequences, and let’s see how many different patterns we can come up with!
Remember, as we explore, every pattern helps us see the beauty in math! 🌈
By the end of our lesson, you'll be able to spot and explain different types of patterns in numbers—just like being a detective!
Let’s get started on our journey to becoming pattern experts! 🎉
