Lesson script

Introduction

"Good morning everyone! Today we are going to talk about dynamic stretching. Who can tell me why warming up is important before physical activity? That's right! It helps prepare our muscles and joints, increases our heart rate, and reduces the risk of injury. Dynamic stretching is an excellent way to achieve all of these things. By the end of this lesson, you will understand the concept and benefits of dynamic stretching, and you will know how to perform some key dynamic stretches correctly."

Handout Printable Cards

"Now, I'm going to hand out some printable cards to each of you. These cards will help you track what you learn today and what you need to remember. On these cards, you will fill out your observations about each stretch as we go along. Please take one and pass the stack back. Make sure to have your name on it so I can collect them later."

Demonstrate Stretches

"Let’s move on to the next part of our lesson! I'll demonstrate a few dynamic stretches for you. Watch my movements carefully. The first stretch is called the 'Leg Swings'. You’ll stand next to a wall or a partner for support. Then you swing one leg forward and backward, keeping the posture straight. Notice how I keep my core engaged? This keeps our balance steady. Now, the second stretch is the 'Arm Circles'. You stand with your arms extended to the side, making small circles and gradually making them larger. Remember, the movement should be controlled. Finally, we will do 'Hip Circles' by placing our hands on our hips and making circular motions with our hips. Try to follow my instructions closely and remember the form!"

Group Activity

"Now it’s your turn! I want you to partner up and practice these dynamic stretches together. While you perform them, use your printable cards to take notes on each other’s technique and form. Check in with your partner as you go—do they have the right posture? Is their movement smooth? You have three minutes to work together, so make it count!"

Collect/Check Cards

"Great job, everyone! I’m going to walk around and check your cards. I want to see what you've noted down and if you understood the key components of each stretch. Remember, this is not just about completing the cards but also about truly grasping the purpose of these dynamic stretches. I’ll be collecting them at the end of our session."

Assign Homework

"To wrap up our lesson, I am assigning you homework. I would like you to write a short paragraph about the benefits of dynamic stretching and list at least three dynamic stretches you learned today. Please remember to complete this assignment independently, and just submit it to me at the next class. No need to present it in front of the class. I’m looking forward to reading your insights!"

Homework

  1. What are the primary benefits of dynamic stretching before physical activity? Write a short paragraph explaining these benefits.

  2. List three dynamic stretches that were demonstrated in class. Provide a brief description of how to perform each stretch.

  3. Explain why maintaining proper posture is important during dynamic stretching. How does it impact your overall performance?

  4. Reflect on your group activity experience. What did you notice about your partner’s technique? Did you have any difficulties while performing the stretches, and if so, how did you address them?

  5. After researching, find one additional dynamic stretch not covered in class. Describe how to perform this stretch and discuss its benefits.

  6. Discuss how dynamic stretching can help reduce the risk of injury during physical activities. Provide at least two examples to support your answer.

  7. How does engaging your core contribute to the effectiveness of dynamic stretches? Provide an explanation based on your observations from the lesson.
