Description

Imagine that you have been chosen to create a time capsule that will be opened 50 years from now. The task is to include items that represent our current social media culture. To initiate the lesson, we will divide the class into small groups and ask them to brainstorm their ideas.

Instructions

1. Form Groups: Divide the students into small groups of 4-5.

2. Brainstorm: Each group has 10 minutes to discuss and list:

   • Three social media platforms that they believe are defining our era (e.g., Instagram, TikTok, Twitter).
   • Two types of content that they think represent how we communicate today (e.g., memes, influencers).
   • One challenge they believe arises from our reliance on social media (e.g., cyberbullying, misinformation).

3. Create a Presentation: After brainstorming, each group will take 5 minutes to prepare a quick presentation to share their time capsule items with the class, explaining why they chose each item.

Transition to Lesson
