To engage Year 11 students in a discussion about social media, its impacts, and implications on communication, identity, and society.
Imagine that you have been chosen to create a time capsule that will be opened 50 years from now. The task is to include items that represent our current social media culture. To initiate the lesson, we will divide the class into small groups and ask them to brainstorm their ideas.
Form Groups: Divide the students into small groups of 4-5.
Brainstorm: Each group has 10 minutes to discuss and list:
Create a Presentation: After brainstorming, each group will take 5 minutes to prepare a quick presentation to share their time capsule items with the class, explaining why they chose each item.
Following the presentations, facilitate a discussion around the effects of social media on personal identity and societal values, leading into the core lesson about social media's influence in contemporary life.
By introducing the lesson through this engaging activity, students will be more inclined to participate actively in the subsequent discussions about social media.
