Good morning/afternoon! Today we are going to dive into the exciting world of Addition. Addition is a very important mathematical concept that is used in our daily lives. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to solve addition problems with ease, and maybe even teach someone else!
Let’s start with a fun warm-up activity!
Now that we are warmed up and ready to go, let’s talk about what addition really means.
Addition is the mathematical operation of combining two or more quantities to make a total. It is a way of putting things together to find out how many there are in total.
For example, if you have 3 apples and you add 2 more, you end up with 5 apples in total.
To show the operation of addition, we use the plus sign (+). Whenever you see the plus sign, you know that the numbers in front of and behind it are going to be added together.
For example, 2 + 3 = 5. Here, 2 and 3 are the numbers we are adding together, and 5 is the total we get when we add them up.
Now, it’s time to put what we've learned into practice. Pull out your math notebooks and we will work on some addition problems together.
Problem 1:
2+5=__
Problem 2:
6+3=__
Problem 3:
4+2+1=__
Great job, you did it! Keep practicing and you will become an addition master in no time!
