Lesson Introduction: Setting Your Targets

Welcome to a New Adventure!

Good morning, Year 7! Today we’re going to embark on a journey into the exciting world of target setting.

Begin with a Mind Map

Imagine if you were the captain of a ship setting sail to a new island. You wouldn't just hop on board and sail into the unknown, would you? No, you would first create a map with clear destinations and milestones. That’s exactly what we’re going to do with our own learning today!

Drawing Your Map

To kick things off, let’s get our creative juices flowing! We’re going to create a mind map on the board. I want you all to shout out what goals you want to achieve this term in English, whether it’s improving your writing skills, mastering new vocabulary or even becoming more confident in speaking.

  1. Start with a central idea: In the middle of the board, I’ll write “MY ENGLISH TARGETS”.
  2. Branch out: For each goal you shout out, I’ll draw a branch.
  3. Add details: We’ll then discuss how we can make these targets SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound).

Group Activity: The Adventure Begins!

Once our mind map is complete, you’ll pair up with a partner and create your own personal target map. Use some paper or your notebooks to draft your own targets. Think about:

Reflection Time

After you’ve created your maps, we’ll come back together to share some of our goals. This is your chance to share what you’re excited about and support one another in this journey. Remember, setting targets will guide us through the seas of knowledge this term!

Ready, Set, Target!

So, are we ready to set sail and map our targets for success? Let’s dive in! 🚀

This lesson introduction not only engages students through creativity and collaboration but also sets a structured foundation for their understanding of target setting in English.
