Today, we’re going to embark on an exciting adventure into the Magical Forest where we will learn all about measurement! Bring your imagination and let’s discover the wonders of size, length, and weight together!
First, let's all sit in a circle and listen closely. Here’s a little story to help us understand measurement.
Once upon a time in the Magical Forest, there lived a friendly giant named Gerry. Gerry loved to collect treasures! But there was a problem: he had lost the special measuring stick he used to find out how big his treasures were! Now, Gerry needed our help.
Can you help Gerry measure his treasures? In the forest, we’ll find different objects that need measuring – some are tall, some are short, some are heavy, and some are light!

Let’s come back together and share what we measured! You can tell us:
We’ll end our adventure with a special song about measurement and how fun it is to explore the world around us. Measurement is everywhere in our Magical Forest!
Encourage your families to help you measure things at home too! You could use your hands, feet, or even spoons to see how tall or how heavy everyday objects are.
Remember, measurement helps us understand our world better, and it's all around us, just like in the Magical Forest!
This lesson encourages children to engage with measurement concepts through storytelling, hands-on activities, and interactive discussions aligned with the New Zealand Early Childhood Education curriculum.
