All About Me: A Fun Introduction Lesson

Objective: To help preschoolers explore and express their identity through creative self-discovery activities.

Welcome Circle: The Magic Mirror

Materials Needed:

Lesson Plan:

  1. Gather Together: Start the lesson by inviting all the children to sit in a circle. Use bright colored scarves or cloth to create a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

  2. Introduce the Magic Mirror: Hold up the large mirror and say, “Today, we’re going to look into our magic mirror! This mirror helps us discover all the wonderful things about who we are.”

  3. Reflective Questions:

    • What Do You See?: Pass the mirror around and let each child have a moment to say their name and what they see in the mirror. Encourage them to include something they like about themselves (e.g., “I see my smile!” or “I see my curly hair!”).
    • How Do You Feel?: After everyone has had a turn with the mirror, bring out the Feelings Chart. Ask them to choose a facial expression that represents how they feel today and share it with the class.
  4. Create Your Own "All About Me" Picture: After sharing, invite the children to draw a self-portrait on the paper using crayons. Encourage them to include details like their favorite color, favorite food, or what makes them happy. As they draw, walk around and ask questions about their creations to spark conversation.

  5. Share with the Class: Once the drawings are complete, invite each child to present their “All About Me” picture to the class. Allow them to share one special thing about themselves.

  6. Wrap-Up Circle: Conclude the lesson by bringing the group back together. Celebrate everyone’s uniqueness by saying, “Everyone is special in their own way, just like our drawings!”

Closing Activity:

To solidify the lesson's message, sing a joyful song about being yourself, where each child can contribute a line about what makes them unique, reinforcing a sense of belonging and self-acceptance.

By implementing this engaging activity, preschoolers will not only learn about themselves but also develop social skills and gain confidence in expressing their individuality!
