A Fun Start to Learning About Time!

Objective: Capture students' attention and engage them in the topic of time while introducing key concepts such as clocks, hours, and minutes.

Introduction: Time Travelers!

Materials Needed:

Lesson Start: The Big Clock Adventure

1. Gather the Class:

Bring the students together in a circle on the carpet. Create an inviting atmosphere with fun props around a large cardboard clock.

2. The Story of the Time Travelers:

Begin the lesson with a captivating story:

“Once upon a time, there was a magical land called Tick-Tock Town. In this land, time was not just something we tell by watching a clock – time was a living, breathing character named Professor Time. He loved to travel through different hours of the day, visiting children to share his secret of counting minutes and hours!

One day, Professor Time visited Year 2, and he asked the children to help him discover the best times of the day! Do you think we can help him?”

3. Engage the Students:

Ask the students:

4. Introduce the Clock:

Point to the cardboard clock. Explain: “This clock is going to help us become experts in telling time! Let’s learn what the different parts of the clock mean. Can anyone tell me what numbers we see? What happens when the big hand points to different numbers?”

5. Activity: Setting the Clock

Invite students to help set the clock to different times (for example, 3 o'clock, 6 o'clock) using stickers or markers to denote special events (like lunchtime, going home time).

Transition to Lesson:

After the interactive engagement with the story and clock activity, seamlessly transition into the main lesson on telling time: “Now that we’ve traveled through Tick-Tock Town with Professor Time, it’s time for us to learn how to tell time! Are you ready?”

By using an imaginative story and physical engagement, you’ll not only excite your students about the concept but also create a memorable framework for learning how to tell time!
