To create a warm and engaging atmosphere for children to share, learn, and build community at the start of the school day.
Materials Needed:
Gather the Class: Invite all the children to sit in a circle on the rug. Use a friendly and upbeat tone to encourage everyone to join.
Teacher: "Alright, friends! Let’s gather around for our Morning Meeting! Can everyone find a spot on our special rug? Let’s get cozy!"
Start with a Song: Lead into the morning meeting by singing a cheerful "Good Morning" song. This sets a positive mood and gets the little ones excited.
Teacher: "Let’s sing our special song! 🎶 Good morning, good morning, how are you today? 🎶"
Weather Bear Introduction: After the song, gently introduce the "Weather Bear" puppet. Use it to ask the children about the weather outside.
Teacher: "Look who’s here! This is Weather Bear! Let’s see what the weather is like today. Can anyone tell Weather Bear if it’s sunny, rainy, or snowy?"
Allow children to respond, helping them practice their observational and descriptive skills.
Sharing Time: Invite each child to share something about their morning or plans for the day. Pass a colorful talking stick or ball to ensure everyone gets a turn.
Teacher: "Now, let's take turns sharing! Who wants to go first? Remember, we all have to listen while our friends talk!"
End with a Focus Activity: Conclude the meeting by summarizing the shared stories or insights. Suggest a fun activity related to what was shared.
Teacher: "Wow, we’ve heard so many great things! Let’s do a fun drawing activity where we create our own weather picture, just like we talked about!"
This Morning Meeting format helps build community and encourages participation. It combines singing, sharing, and creative expression, making it a delightful way for young learners to start their day with excitement and connection.
Let’s start our day with joy, communication, and creativity in our minds!
