To engage students in understanding the different food groups and their importance for a healthy diet.
Begin by placing a closed box or basket in the center of the classroom. Explain to the students that today, we are going to embark on an exciting journey to uncover the mystery behind our food.
"What Do You Think is Inside?"
Ask the students to share their guesses about what might be inside the mystery box. Encourage creativity! Allow them to think about the different food groups they’ve learned about so far. Write their guesses on the board.
After a few minutes of guessing, unveil the box! Start pulling out the food items or pictures one by one. As you do, engage the students by asking questions like:
Distribute sticky notes and markers to each student. As you reveal each food item, ask them to write down the name of the food and the food group it belongs to.
