Objective: Engage Year 1 students in the magical world of fables and introduce them to the key elements of storytelling.
Teacher: "Good morning, everyone! Today, we’re going to step through a magical door into a special place I like to call Fable Forest! 🌲✨
Imagine opening a door and finding yourself surrounded by talking animals, wise trees, and adventures that teach us important lessons. Can you see it in your minds?
Let’s begin our journey!
Teacher: "A fable is a short story that teaches us something important. Most often, the characters are animals who can talk and act like people. They face challenges and learn lessons, just like we do!"
Activity: "Now, let’s have some fun! I need everyone to think of their favorite animal. I want you to close your eyes and imagine that your animal can talk. What would it say? What silly adventure do you see it on?
Let’s pretend to be in a parade with our animals! I will call out an animal, and when I do, let’s make the sounds and movements that animal would make. Ready? Here we go!
“Let’s start with a lion! Roar! What would the lion say?”
“Now a bunny! Let’s hop and say ‘What a wonderful day!’”
Let your imagination run wild!"
Teacher: "After our parade, I want to hear the wonderful ideas you just came up with!
What lesson do you think your talking animal learned on its adventure?
Remember, in Fable Forest, every story has a lesson, and we’re going to discover them together today!
So, who wants to share their favorite talking animal and its adventure?"
Wrap-Up: By engaging the students in a creative and playful way, we encourage them to think critically about character development and moral lessons in fables. This playful introduction sets the stage for deeper exploration of fables in the lesson to come!
