Introduction

"Good [morning/afternoon], everyone! Today, we're going to talk about a very important topic: Meeting Expectations at School. It's crucial to understand what is expected of us in terms of behaviour and academic performance because it helps create a positive and productive school environment.

Can anyone share examples of what some of these expectations might be? Think about both behaviour and schoolwork. [Pause for responses] Great, those are some excellent examples! Let's dive deeper into these expectations."

Review of Expectations

"Now, I’m going to give each of you a handout that outlines our school's expectations. [Distribute handouts]

Take a moment to read through the document. After that, I’d like to discuss it as a class. What stands out to you? Are there any expectations you find particularly interesting or challenging? [Encourage discussion] Thank you for your thoughts – it's important that we’re all on the same page!”

Self-Reflection Activity

"Next, I want each of you to take a moment for some self-reflection. On these sticky notes, jot down one personal strength you have and one area where you think you could improve when it comes to meeting school expectations.

Remember, it’s okay to think critically about yourself. [Give students time to write] If you finish early, you can think about how these strengths and areas for improvement relate to the expectations we've just discussed."

Group Discussion

"Now, let’s move into groups! Please divide into groups of four. In your groups, discuss your thoughts on how to meet school expectations. I want each group to come up with a few collective goals that you think would help you and your classmates succeed in meeting these expectations.

Once you’ve decided on your goals, write them down on the group activity sheet. You have ten minutes for this discussion. I’ll be walking around to support you if you have any questions. Ready, set, go!"

Group Presentations

"Alright, time’s up! I’d like each group to briefly share the goals you came up with. You can do this by placing your activity sheets on the whiteboard one at a time and sharing just a highlight or two.

I'll keep an eye on the time to ensure everyone has a chance to present. Who would like to go first? [Facilitate presentations] Thank you all for sharing your ideas! These are some fantastic goals that we can work towards as a class."

Homework Assignment

"Before we finish up today, I’d like to assign a small homework task. I want each of you to write a short reflection on how you personally plan to meet the expectations we discussed in class today.

Please remember, you’ll submit these reflections at the beginning of our next lesson. No need to prepare for a presentation; just a written reflection will do. Does anyone have any questions about the homework? [Address questions]

Alright, that brings us to the end of today's lesson. Thank you for your participation; I’m looking forward to reading your reflections!"
